Santiago Apóstol School is located in Valencia, in the Cabañal neighbourhood, which is an area with a considerable percentage of inmigrant people (17%). Half of these people are Roma people coming from Romania. We also have secondary and upper secondary grades, students' age range is 6-18. We currently have 172 students, 98% of which is Roma and comes from families at serious risk of social exclusion, either due to economic , labour or racial reasons. We’re well aware of the inherent complexity of the task related to educating kids coming from a such a disadvantaged environment, and for that reason we decided to offer an integrated solution by turning our school into a Learning Community in 2010. We’ve based our daily work on the dialogical approach and we’ve put in practice several effective educational actions like the Interactive Groups, Dialogical Literacy Circles, Families’ and Volunteers’ Training, Educationa Participation of the Community, the Dialogical Model for Conflict Prevention and the Dialogical Teachers’ Training. Some years ago we startes an Innovative Education Program focused on fostering our students’ motivation through ICT, whose output have been so far the School Radio, the “gamification” of our methodologies, the “Creativity Development through digital media” Course and The “Programming and Robotic” Course. Hence we’ve developed some experience related to thepillars of our methodologies, i.d. Fostering motivation to prevent early dropout and absenteeism; Education innovation through formal and non-formal techniques; Prevention, management and solution of school conflicts; Implementation of intercultural and immigration issues in our curriculum; Modernisation of the school workflow Key persons involved in this project are: 1) Alessandro De Gregorio, social worker and project manager. He wrote, supervised, put in practice and assessed the Erasmus+ project we carried out in 2016-2018 He’s also memeber of our Innovative Education Team and teacher in our Creativity and Robotics courses. He’s been teaching for several years at European level subjects like “Fostering creativity” and “Use of ICT” in classrooms. This year he’s going to lead our KA1 and KA2 projects. 2) Jordi Bosch López de Andújar, headmaster, has considerable experience in dialogical learning, social inclusion, learning communities, project management. He’s going to be the project supervisor and results’ implementation coordinator We believe that we share targets and methodologies with our partners. Specifically, we aim at fostering motivation among our students, by putting the learner back at the center of the learning process. At the same time, we’re persuaded that some innovative approaches may prove themselves considerably useful when it comes to involve the students and getting closer to their way of thinking Our know-how and expertise in these fields are likely to be implemented by our partners, that shares the same attitude towards innovative education.
